Silverton has brought to market a unusual sized Fly Bridge Convertible that offers two private staterooms (both behind hard doors, each in it’s own room). Check both of these rooms for your bed size as that is a good, valuable trick in this size Boat. A Full size mattress is often called out as 54” by 75”, a Queen size = 60” by 80”, and a King at 76” by 80”. Check out each for yourself, in person, please, but a bed and a hanging locker in a private space for two couples (4 folks total) is a valuable feature.
Power choices are twin 5.0s (or 5.7 as the market is changing), and at extra cost, twin 6.0s. Straight inboards are used for drives.
Forget about the base engines, they are listed just for price.
With the 6.0s, look for 5 knots and very good fuel economy at 1,000 rpms or so. That is your long distance cruise speed for fuel savings. Figure on around 20 knots around 4,000 rpms and the upper twenties at WOT and 5,000 rpms. Either throttle opening is a lot of rpms for a continuous cruising speed, but you can only get around these numbers by going with big blocks, but that is not offered in this boat.
Thanks to Silverton skipping prop tunnels and giving the boat a good head sea punch without them.
Quality and styling is interesting on the new boat. Silverton does some things right and some cheap, to keep the pricing low. Look at the engine vents on the hull side. Silverton just doubles the cheap, smaller boat vents mounted in tandem rather than use a big boat treatment. Yet, they styled the hand hold along the bridge side for a very nice look
The cockpit is tight for Sportfishing. Maybe she is a sedan cruiser? Another thing that suggests this Sedan idea is the wonderful light and airiness that the main salon. In any event, that is more a sedan feature rather than a the solid fiberglass front wall to handle any sea state, which most Sportsmen want. Again, it’s a family feature over a fishing feature. Its not bad, its just a choice that Silverton made. Also, note that it’s a staircase to the bridge, not a ladder. More like a sedan, again.
It’s a Fly Bridge with the skipper forward and a passenger seat across the aft bridge railing. Figure that space by weight stability as you cruise, not seating area for folks with fat or thin rear ends. Check for a wind defector, full all-weather canvas (it’s the only steering station), windshield wiper, and how Radar is handed ( you do not want it radiating through your body or eyes as you use the boat with radar).
She is a very nice boat to consider, as she is far from complete as base price boat. You add what you want from the options list. Windlass, generator, couch finish, toilet type, swim platform, etc.
Fastening fenders to the side of a boat can be tricky and time-consuming. Accon Marine's 401-R Fender Hangers enable boat owners to easily place and remove fenders without repetitive tying and untying.
Users conveniently attach the fender to a loop on the hanger which snaps into a fixed base. The unique quick release feature enables the loop to remain connected to the fender line when separated, eliminating the need to fasten and unfasten the fenders.
Constructed from marine-grade 316 stainless steel, they feature a low profile and sleek appearance. They're available with 1/2" or 1" loops to fit most fender lines.
Incredibly easy to install, these fender hangers do not require any cut-outs. They simply mount on the vessel's surface with two #10 screws.
Accon Marine's 401-R Fender Hangers have a starting retail price of $29.61.
For more than 30 years, Accon Marine has been associated with superior quality precision metal work. The company manufactures innovative flush-mounted deck hardware, Pop-Up cleats, lifting cleats and navigation lights.
Here a real wood deck is being finished up on a all fiberglass Alsberg 16 by a wooden boat restorer. His work is outstanding in person, but in resizing some of the photos, some sharpness is lost by seabuddy. A great runabout usually powered by a merc engine and jet drive, similar to the various small jet boats from Baja, Regal, Sea Ray, etc.
Standard is usually a 175 Hp Merc but up to 240 Hp have been offered. Figure on about 50 mph top speed with a 175 Hp and you might touch 60 mph with a 240 Hp set-up. Custom buildt in a mold, even a diesel engine choice is optional if she is to be a tender to a larger yacht.
She is 16' 8"? by 6' 5" and has a very shallow floating still draft with the lightweight Merc engine adapted from their outboard engine series and set inside the boat (note the raised box for the engine in the wood deck) mated to a Merc water Jet.
Harry Schoell designed her modern bottom with a very much a vee and a softer than traditional boats ride in mind of this size. Schoell is known for many famous off-shore designs and a chop on the water should not be a problem with this hull compared to a wood Century or Chris Craft of the 16'-17' size in terms of passenger comfort.
BTW, her styling suggests a Century Thunderbolt on the later 1930s.
